The majority of women and girls in our project areas did not go past the primary level of education. This is because many lacked school fees while others became pregnant and had to drop out of school at an early age. The situation was exacerbated by the Covid-19 devastation, which saw many failing to return to school after the pandemic, owing to the closure of schools or due to the biting poverty at the household level which was occasioned by the reduction in earnings among those that supported their education pre-Covid. To address this challenge, with support from development partners, Saint Ann Foundation is implementing the Functional Adult Literacy program through which basic numeracy and literacy are availed to the beneficiaries with the view of equipping them with the basics of what they require to effectively communicate or transact business without language or communication barriers.
